Youth Skilling and Training Workshop for Retail & Supply chain

Saraswati Seva Foundation organised retail and supply chainskilling &training workshop to the aspirants who want to make career in the Retail and Supply-chain industry. The program’s objective was to inform the aspirants of the current industry trends in India, its penetration in the rural areas and how can they envision their career path in this industry without fleeing the villages. The workshop was specifically focused on equipping the youth with information and the tools to take informed decision for rural entrepreneurship in agriculture supply-chain which is set to be a booming area. The workshop was completely free-of-cost for the participants.

The program was delivered jointly by Prof. Arindam Deb (Professor – Retail & Marketing, Birla Institute of Management Technology, Greater Noida) and Vivek Singh (President, Saraswati Seva Foundation). Prof. Arindam highlighted the current industry needs of human capital and the fact that Retail & Supply-chain is set to be the 2nd largest employment generating sector after Agriculture. In the backdrop, he also called out the ways in which aspirants from the rural areas should position themselves. Vivek Singh emphasised the need of looking at rural entrepreneurship in Agri supply-chain to catalyse value-making in the villages and discourage the rural youth migrating to urban areas looking for odd jobs. Most of the participants belonged to different villages in 10 Kilometres radius from Bairiya.

This program was organised with our regional partner ‘Abhiyan Educational Society’ (AES) which is led by Mr. Ashesh Singh. AES has been helpful in mobilising the youth and delivering the workshop. Participants shared that this program was first of its kind in that region and it was very well received. Ashesh Singh, Head-Abhiyan Education Society and our regional partner in delivering this program, lauded the effort and encouraged the participants to adopt unconventional approach in career building leading towards the rural supply chain.
